The Sound of Science – Connecting STEM to the Arts

Music as an art form is entirely dependent on scientific phenomena – from the sounds the instruments make, to the way we hear them, right down to the counting of the measures.  In this workshop participants will explore the deep and broad connections between science and the arts, from the ancient Greeks (who did not differentiate between art and science) to our modern-day emphasis on STEM (science, technology, engineering and math).  Through our exploration of acoustics, organology (the study of instruments), and music’s effect on the brain we’ll discover how to add the “A” for Art to STEM - and generate STEAM!

A 3 hour workshop.
